If you’re like most people, you get frustrated when you try to book an Airbnb listing only to find that additional fees put the property way outside of your budget. There’s a way around it, though. Here’s how to see the total price of your booking right on the search page.

How to see the total cost in your Airbnb search

First, go to Airbnb’s Australia site. Then, do your search as normal by entering all of the important parameters for your stay. You’ll see listings that only the total price of the stay, including all taxes and fees. Note: The Australian site will initially show prices in Australian Dollars, but you can change the pricing to USD by clicking the small globe icon at the top-right of the page.

Compare that with what you’ll see when you search on the U.S. site—both the nightly price and a total that isn’t actually a total ($698 total on Airbnb’s U.S. site vs. $799 total on Airbnb’s Australia site).

Then, filter your search based on total price instead of nightly price. This total price will include the cost of any associated taxes and fees (including cleaning fees). Being able to filter based on total price instead of nightly price will really help if you’re trying to stick to a specific budget.

Finally, go back and book on the U.S. site. You won’t want to complete your booking on the Australian site because Australia charges a value-added tax (VAT) on the Airbnb service fee. So, next time you’re planning a trip and booking with Airbnb, be sure to check the Australian Airbnb site—it will take some frustration out of your search.
