What's New on HBO Max in March 2021

You may think you have seen Justice League, but have you seen Zack Snyder’s Justice League? If you are at all interested in comic books, movies, or troubling think pieces on internet troll subculture, and have been online at all in the last four years, you are probably well aware of what’s coming.
 
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will finally premiere on March 18 on Zack Snyder’s HBO Max, years after Not Zack Snyder’s Justice League hugely underperformed in theaters. As recently recounted in a lengthy interview with Snyder in Variety, the original director of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (then just called Justice League) clashed with Warner Bros. during production before leaving the helm of the DC franchise entirely in the wake of a family tragedy—at which point Joss Whedon stepped in to “consult on reshoots” and ended up re-filming as much as 75% of it, apparently because he decided the internet didn’t already hate him enough for being a pseudo-feminist dick and making Age of Ultron (he’s since only continued to dig himself a deeper hole).

But now, finally, years and some $70 million in new special effects later, we shall finally get to experience Zack Snyder’s vision for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. I, for one, have yet to watch any of the mainline DC films outside of half of the first Wonder Woman, so I have a a long road ahead of me if I want to truly understand the entire sordid Zack Snyder saga.

Otherwise, this month HBO Max also brings the premiere of Godzilla vs. Kong (March 31), which looks at least as ridiculous and will require me to do almost as much homework before I can watch it properly (by which I mean, in sequence with the rest of the franchise, as opposed to “in a very loud theater,” though it’s playing in those, too—but I won’t be vaccinated by then).
